Stumptown Coffee invites you to meet the authors of

The Frankies Spuntino Kitchen Companion and Cooking Manual

And who are the Two Franks?

Frank Falcinelli and Frank Castronovo are childhood friends, chefs and the creators of Brooklyn’s wildly popular Frankies Spuntino, Manhattan’s Frankies 17, Prime Meats and Cafe Pedlar—and a-soon-to-be-created Portland, Oregon version of the Spuntino. Their new book is modeled after a 19th century carpenter’s manual and features tips, techniques, shortcuts and 100 of the recipes everyone loves best at their restaurant. After years of cooking with some of the great chefs the two Franks literally ran into each other on a Manhattan street, rekindled their friendship and decided to leave behind French sauces and imported Asian condiments and create a casual restaurant where they would serve “the food we wanted to eat every day.”

They bought an old tenement building complete with an old horse stable and an overgrown garden—and turned it into one of the most loved places in Brooklyn with a cult following of neighbors and celebrities alike. And while they were inspired by recipes from their Italian grandmothers, this was no “typical” Italian-American pasta place: no red checkered tablecloths, no “deep fried crap”; and on the speakers Caruso was out: Neil Young and the Grateful Dead in.

And they are bringing their food to Portland, 2011 when—with the support of Stumptown’s Duane Sorenson—they open their first west coast restaurant. So meet them now at our book launch party for them—Stumptown is hosting with wine, beer, coffee and Chef Jason Barwikowski of Olympic Provisions will be serving bites inspired by Frankies Spuntino, plus everyone takes home a signed copy of the Kitchen Manual.
