drawings by Jill A. Raymundo
“I look at my work as a reflection of my life. In the past couple of years while creating the drawings for this show, I found myself uprooted from my hometown of Vancouver, Canada and dividing my time between Manila, Philippines and Portland, Oregon. The title for this exhibit reflects just that…a sense of being displaced, of not feeling an affinity to any one place and instead being an artist, a student, an immigrant, a tourist, ‘La Turista’ of the world.” – Jill A. Raymundo
Using strictly graphite and charcoal, the work depicts the artist’s space while in travel: a view from an airplane window, moiré patterns from a computer screen, and crumpled paper of abandoned sketches are just some of the subject matter presented.
Born in Manila, Philippines, Raymundo received her BFA in drawing and painting from the Columbus College of Art and Design, and Art History at the University of British Columbia. She has been the recipient for the NY Studio Program held at Parson’s School of Design. Her work has been exhibited in galleries in NYC, Vancouver Canada, the Smithsonian in DC, and internationally as well.
