Kristen Flemington
New Pilgrim

The paintings in New Pilgrim reference the lighting, composition, and subject matter of early American folk art as well as Baroque style portraits and still lifes. In a world overloaded with images and information, this painterly study was an exercise in focusing on simplicity. The objects in the images are all items found in the artist’s home, on a walk, or in her Valentine’s Day bouquet. The white accessories worn by the subjects were all sewn by the artist specifically for each model. The style of these garments call back to items worn in formal portraiture throughout the ages. New Pilgrimis an attempt at isolating people and items from daily life in simple and familiar compositions.

Kristen Flemington studied painting at Herron School of Art before Graduating from Columbia College Chicago with a degree in photography.

Opening reception is 4pm-6pm Sunday, March 18th with old time music by Newt Payne’s Band.

BRADLEY STREEPER: Paintings & Trophies

March 1st – March 31st, 2012
Opening reception Sunday March 4th, 5-7pm

In his first solo exhibition at Stumptown’s Downtown location, Bradley Streeper combines paintings and sculptures to reflect on a culture increasingly dictated by shallow advertising, flashy surfaces, and anxiety-inducing white noise. With surroundings often distorting our definition of value, Streeper points to man’s conflict with the natural world and literally carves out extraneous information from his pieces in an attempt to bring some order to this modern chaos.

Bradley Streeper was born in Bloomington, Illinois in 1977. He studied painting and printmaking at Illinois Wesleyan University earning a Bachelor of Fine Art degree. He received his Master of Fine Art degree from San Diego State University in 2006. Streeper currently lives in Portland, Oregon and teaches part-time at Clark College.

Fall Fashion Week February 2012

Perhaps you have dreamed of ordering a bespoke suit from the master tailors at MARTIN GREENFIELD CLOTHIERS, but have not yet visited Mr. Greenfield’s East Williamsburg atelier. You are in luck, because Friday through Sunday, in honor of Fashion Week, they will set up shop at the Ace Hotel at 20 West 29th Street and hold fittings by appointment. Free whiskey, coffee and snacks from the Breslin and Stumptown will go only so far to ease the sticker shock; it is, after all, costly to be fitted by President Clinton’s tailor. Suits are $2,499 to $2,899; shirts, $225 to $595. R.S.V.P. at ACE Hotel. Read more…
