On view November 25th – January 4th
Reception for the artist 4-6pm Sunday, December 14th
The Notable Persons series started off as a research project for a large scale multi-figure painting. As I continued to make a list of people I found interesting and inspiring I became hindered by my indecision of who to include in the painting. I abandoned the idea of the painting all together. The project became exclusively pen and ink drawings focused on trying to capture the vitality and personality of these people.
To keep the emphasis on their character I set one rule I set for myself; I could not use any pencil sketching to lay-in the drawings. All the drawings in this series are pen and ink only, if I screwed up I had to start over. Some faces were harder than others, some days I felt l was a better artist than others. I believe my errors are every bit as important as my successes, if not more important. My mistakes are what teach me and have value to me, which is why I have decided to hang many of my “bad” drawings as part of the show.
