On view February 1st – February 28th, 2012
Opening reception First Thursday February 2nd, 6pm-8pm
In her paintings, Ruth Lantz explores the indeterminacy of visual encounters. Commingling abstraction and representation, she uses combinations of improvisational techniques and process driven decisions to distill the act of looking through a veiled understanding. The body of work for Shifting Meridian sources a collection of pinhole photographs to investigate the continual translation and fracture of a viewing experience – leaving the paintings hovering in the ether of an undetermined state.
Ruth Lantz, originally from Chicago, received her Masters in Visual Studies from the Pacific Northwest College of Art and currently lives and practices in Portland, OR. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Washington, Vancouver and employed by the Pacific Northwest College of Art.
